Sponsored by The Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists
Our September event, “Clergy-Musician Collaboration and Communication in the 21st century” will explore pastoral/organist work relationships in a church setting. A guided discussion will be organized as a dialogue between AGO musicians and a panel of KCMO clergy. The panel includes Rev. Jenny Wells, Father David Lynch, Rev. Scott Chrostek, and Father John Spicer. Dr. Ann Marie Rigler will serve as moderator.
KCAGO members are requested to submit up to three questions or comments for the panel to consider prior to the meeting when they give their responses. Chapter questions should reflect the spirit of collegiality and mutual respect that AGO intends to foster. Email your submissions to Dr. Beth Elswick (program@kcago.com) no later than 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.
To prepare for this meeting, everyone is strongly encouraged to read “Rivals or a Team? Clergy-Musician Relationships in the Twenty-first Century” (MorningStar Music Publishers, 2012) by Dr. Eileen Guenther, a former president of the AGO.
Do you ever chat about your church job? If you can find a moment, do a little reading. Please submit a few questions or comments about music/clergy collaboration--- a Call and Response for musicians and clergy.
