DECEMBER 2009

From the Dean:

For those, like me, who have time for only the summary in these weeks before Christmas, please see the facts below:

The January meeting will be presented by Stephen Pinel, archivist for the Organ Historical Society. The archives are located at Westminster Choir College, Rider University, Princeton, New Jersey. His presentation is “What the OHS Can Do for the AGO.” He has many, many visuals to share, and there will be a brief demonstration on Rainbow’s historic 1869 E and GG Hook organ. If you missed “History of American Organ Building” as part of your organ studies, or are curious about anything to do with why American organs are the way they are, please come. Scott is passionate about his field, and it will be enlightening and enjoyable to hear about the development of our instrument from someone who knows its history so intimately.

**REMINDER TO BOARD MEMBERS: Our next Board meeting will be Saturday, January 9 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. All committee chairs are asked to attend.

Professional Development Update

For Professional Development, this year's thrust will be for our Guild to provide the best possible organists for congregational worship -- either fulltime organists or substitute organists. One of the ways for you to help accomplish that goal is to acquire an AGO certificate. If you are interested in working on your AGO certification, contact Ted Stewart stewart.smith@att.net (816-254-5665) or Betty Bauer hababab@earthlink.net (913-814-9021). For those wishing to substitute, getting the minimum Service Playing Certificate will guarantee you will be included on our web site's substitute list.
